Loyalty to Smithtown
Robert (Bob) Madarasz lives, works and raises his family in the Smithtown community. He is the owner and President of ENVIROspect, located on Main Street, an environmental services firm specializing in assessments, remediation and real estate inspections. His company has worked closely with students at the high school level for the past two years, by donating labor, materials and lab analysis to those students participating in the Intel Science Project. Bob is also an active member of the Smithtown Industry Advisory Board. He donates his time each year to the Business Olympics and the Alumni days that are held at Smithtown High School.
On a personal level, Bob stays involved in the sports arena in the district and the community by volunteering his time with the Smithtown Booster Club. He has been an active member for the past 10 years. He has held the positions of Treasurer, Vice President and is currently the President of this organization. Three years ago Bob established the annual Smithtown Alumni Baseball Game, which raises money for a scholarship to be given to a senior varsity baseball player each year. He is on the Smithtown Sports Hall of Fame Committee and has chaired their annual golf outing for two years. In his spare time he also enjoys coaching his son Michael in the St. James/Smithtown Little League and coaching his daughter Lisa in the St. Patrick’s Youth Softball program. He is an active member of St. Patrick’s Youth Advisory Board as well.
Bob is also on the Board of Directors for the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce and is presently chairing a committee in charge of Main Street revitalization. In addition to this, he is an active member of the Rotary Club of Smithtown.
While at Smithtown High School, Bob played both football and baseball. He credits two of his coaches for having a lasting and positive effect on him in terms of work ethics and team work. They were Coach Cliff Heinze and Coach Tom Grimm. He also fondly remembers one of his Social Studies teachers, Mr. Ed Johannson, who taught him quite a bit about leadership.
After graduating from Smithtown West, Bob went on to achieve an AAS degree in Business Administration from Suffolk Community College. Bob is happily married to his wife Kathy Staudt, also a 1979 graduate of Smithtown West. They have two children Lisa,17 and Matthew,14 who currently attend Smithtown High School.
When asked if he had any words of wisdom to give to the current students at SHS Bob replied, "Academics are the most important thing to focus on right now. Everything else will fall into place if you have that foundation. Since athletics and socializing were my top priorities back when I was in school, I had to work twice as much to achieve my goals later in life." Congratulations to Bob, a truly deserving winner of the "Loyalty to Smithtown" award for 2003.
